Vasorelaxant substance obtainable from human atrium.

A vasorelaxant substance obtainable in the beta -component (being fractions 42-45 as shown in Figure 3) resulting from:- extracting human atrium cordis by boiling in acetic acid and homogenising; cooling, homogenising and centrifuging the extract to obtain a supernatant; precipitating impurities from the supernatant, evaporating to dryness and redissolving the residue in acetic acid; defatting, desalting and concentrating the solution; eluting with 1N acetic acid, 2N pyridine solution, and 2N pyridine/acetic acid solution (pH = 5), and selecting the fraction eluted by the 2N pyridine/acetic acid solution; lyophilising said fraction and redissolving the lyophilisate in acetic acid, and gel-filtering the dissolved fraction to provide the fractions as shown in Fig 3.
