The method is for roughening the concrete or bituminous surface in order to improve the gip of the wheels of vehicles using the roadway. A vibrating plate is used which is actuated by centrifugal force or by a hydraulic drive. The underside of the vibrating plate has balls embedded in its undersurface. These balls are made of steel or of a very hard steel-like alloy. The balls are arranged in groups arranged by the side of each other and extending over part or all of the surface.
