Workpieces (26-29) are conveyed by endless belt (12) from the entrance door (22) to the exit door (24) through a heating zone (18) under a heater (38) controlled (39) by a process computer (35) responsive to signals from two pyrometers (31,32). If the reading of the downstream pyrometer (31) deviates from a predetermined temp./distance curve corresp. e.g. to the m.pt. of solder on the workpiece (28), the heater control (39) is adjusted (37) or the conveyor speed is varied by a command (36) to its drive (14), to correct the temp. gradient. USE/ADVANTAGE - Oven operating conditions are established quickly, and variations detected and corrected rapidly. Heat treatment, e.g. hard and high temp. soldering, aluminium soldering, melting, blank glowing hardening or forming, annealing or tempering. Two workpieces can be soldered together in the furnace.
