The ignition timing between idling and a predetermined throttle valve opening is calculated by adding to a fixed idling timing the proportion of the difference between the idling timing and a timing dependent upon engine speed and load which corresponds to the proportion of the actual opening of the throttle valve between the idling opening and the predetermined opening.
