PURPOSE: To enable adjustment of the spacing and angle of optical fibers with respect to each other by providing a main body having a central bore through which the fibers extend and providing a means which is arranged in this central bore, which engages with the fibers and which adjusts the orientation of the fibers with respect to each other. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of step type refractive index optical fibers 12 are in the end terminal 14 of a sheathing cable. The fibers 12 transmit a high energy laser beam having a wavelength from an infrared to an ultraviolet ray. A spacing and an angle between the fibers 12 are selected by means of the holder 24. Divergent beams 30a, 30b from the fibers 12a, 12b respectively enter the lens 32, 36, 42, 46, forming convergent beams 48a, 48b. A process assist gas is sent to the entrance 52 of the nozzle 50, assisting the processing of a material. The beams 48a, 48b are respectively converged on a spots 54a, 54b on a workpiece 56. As a result, the orientation of plural optical fibers is adjusted with respect to each other, enabling the workpiece to be irradiated with high energy laser beams emanating from the fibers. |
