The method is for attaching letters, figures, or symbols to a smooth surface in order to provide instructions or other information. The letter or symbol is displayed on a rectangular piece of plastics film which has a backing sheet on the rear side and an adhesive fixing sheet on the front side. The fixing sheet overlaps the edges of the rectangular piece which carries the letter. After removing the backing sheet, the rectangular piece is applied to the surface which is to carry the instructions, and is then secured by the overlapping edge of the fixing sheet.
