The method comprises placing waste materials into a container (10), sealing the container, placing the sealed container into a melting furnace together with metal, and heating the furnace to a temperature sufficient to completely combust or melt the container and the waste materials. An apparatus for disposing of medical waste material has a container with an opening (12) in its top surface and a lid (15) for sealing the container.
