A method is described for the production of a stem (10) for a hip joint prosthesis, which is characterised in that two shells (20, 21) with unidirectional fibres (14) running through the stem in the longitudinal direction are produced and, in the unhardened state, are hardened along with a filler (17) in the composite, so that the hardening process results in an intimate connection of the sub- components (17, 20, 21). The fibres are applied on a negative mould, which has the corresponding contour of the shell, using aids, such as pins and displacement moulds. The core can also be produced by introducing it subsequently as a foamed or liquid mass into the cavity formed by the shells.
