PURPOSE:To efficiently recover high-purity scrap iron by heating copper-contg. scrap iron in a nonoxidizing atmosphere along with sulfur to sulfidize copper and then compressing or crushing the scrap to separate the embrittled copper. CONSTITUTION:The scrap iron contg. copper or a copper alloy is heated along with sulfur in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. The amt. of sulfur is appropriately controlled to about 10-200% or preferably about 25-100% of the amt. of copper in the scrap. Heating is appropriately carried out at about 300-1000 deg.C. Consequently, the formation of sulfur oxide is controlled, and the copper in the scrap is sulfidized. The scrap is compressed or crushed to remove the copper embrittled by the sulfidation from the scrap. Alternatively, the scrap is brought into contact with aq. ammonia to dissolve and separate copper sulfide. Consequently, high-grade scrap steel is obtained, and copper is also recovered and reutilized.
|
