PURPOSE:To directly observe the composition distribution and the structure of silver halide in silver halide crystal while keeping a lamellate particle and a three-dimensional particle as one piece unit by utilizing the superthin intercept of silver halide particle which is capable of passing electron beams and has <=40nm thickness. CONSTITUTION:Firstly gelatin of emulsion or a film is decomposed and silver halide particles are separated by washing and centrifugal separation or the like and dried. Then the dried silver halide particles are introduced into a gelatin capsule and epoxy resin is introduced into about 1/4 - 1/3 of the capsule and sufficiently mixed with the silver halide particles and dispersed. Furthermore epoxy resin is introduced into the capsule and allowed to stand and thereafter heated, polymerized and cured. The cured block is trimmed to 0.3mm square and a superthin intercept having about 40nm thickness is formed by utilizing a diamond knife. Then the superthin intercept is extracted to the mesh of an electron microscope and dried and thereafter carbon is thinly vacuum-deposited. Then the mesh is fixed to a cooling holder and thereby observation due to the electron microscope is enabled in cooling of liquid nitrogen. |
