Belting comprising an underlay of felt and an upper layer of polyurethane resin enclosing >=1 layer of high tensile filaments or cables. Pref. strips of polyurethane foam are stuck along the borders of an overwide felt to contain cast polyurethane mixtures while traction cables are laid partially immersed in successively layers of the resin. After the cast layers are set, the foam sidewalls and excess felt are trimmed off. Esp. for conveyors for use by riding over fixed surfaces, esp. for carrying people on moving pavements. The polyurethane matrix combines good adhesion to the traction cables and the felt underlay with good wear resistance to pedestrian traffic. The traction cables may be made of metal or glass or Nylon. The felt is pref. based on asbestos fibres, may incorporate some synthetic fibres of a low friction material. |
