PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of rolling and to improve the quality of slab by rolling first only a part of the sheet-thickness increased part of a slab in the thickness direction, and rolling successively the slab in the width direction before rolling it into the aimed sheet thickness by a horizontal mill. CONSTITUTION:Horizontal rolls are provided to the middle part of a vertical rolling stand having caliber rolls, and a metallic slab is reversingly rolled between respective rolls. At that time, only the side ends of sheet-thickness increased parts produced partially by the first edging, is rolled in the thickness direction within a range, where over-filling flaws are not generated. After repeating these rollings in the width and thickness directions to change the slab width to the aimed one, the slab is rolled into the aimed sheet-thickness dimension by a horizontal mill. Because only the side-end parts increased locally in sheet thickness are rolled, the generation of over-filling flaws is restrained and the quality of slab is improved. |
