PURPOSE:To make it easy to determine the number of item settings and a printer function status by installing a photosensor for detection of information relative to a platen section on a carriage. CONSTITUTION:A recording head 9 and a photosensor 11 are installed on a carriage 8. A recording medium is provided between a platen 4 and the recording head 9/a photosensor 11 which are opposed to the platen. The carriage 8 moves in a direction 10 on a main shaft 6 and a carriage guide shaft 7 in parallel with the recording medium 1. The recording medium 1 is pressed between the platen 4 and paper holding rollers 2, 3, and is sent out in a direction 5 by friction force, following the rotation of the platen. In this way, the carriage 8 located in an opposite position to paper 1, and the photosensor 11 scans the paper 1. As a result of this scan, item settings described are read to change the settings of a memory switch. Thus various settings can be made by simple and positive operation. |
