A image forming apparatus having cleaning means for cleaning a movable image bearing member, particularly, an amorphous silicon photosensitive material by scraping the image bearing member with both a blade which is brought into contact with the image bearing member and magnet spherical particles held on a magnet roller provided upstream of the blade in the moving direction of the image bearing member. The magnetic spherical particles are made of ferrite having an average particle diameter within a range from 30 to 200 mu m, preferably, 60 to 100 mu m. As a result abrasion of the photosensitive layer is minimized and foreign matter deposited on the photo sensitive layer is removed to prevent an image flow, so that both a good cleaning function and an image of good picture quality are obtained.
