PURPOSE:To prevent short circuit between a negative active material and a positive electrode by using an expanded grid in a negative electrode and installing projections which are in contact with the surface of the negative electrode in the inner wall of a container. CONSTITUTION:Both sides of a negative electrode 1 are pressed down with projections 5 installed in the inner wall of a container 4. The expansion of an active material of the negative electrode 1 using an expanded grid attendant on charge-discharge cycles are suppressed to avoid short circuit between a negative active material and a positive electrode 3. By coating both end surfaces of the negative plate with sulfonic acid-resistant resin, similar effect can be obtained. |
