PRODUCTION OF 4-VINYL-1,3-DIOXOLANE DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject derivative useful as a raw material for producing resins in high yield by reacting a diene monoxide with a ketone in a great molar ratio of the ketone to the diene monoxide in the presence of a palladium catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A diene monoxide expressed by formula I (R<1> represents H or methyl) prepared by oxidation of butadiene or isoprene (example; butadienemonoxide or isoprenemonoxide) is reacted with a ketone expressed by formula II [R<2> and R<3> represent 1-4C straight chain alkyl or aryl, or R<2> and R<3> together represent a cyclic substituent expressed by the formula -(CH2)n- (n is 4 or 5)] (example; acetone or cyclopentanone) under conditions of the ketone present in an excess amount over the diene monoxide in the presence of a palladium catalyst [example; tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium] to afford the objective compound expressed by formula III.
