PURPOSE:To generate uniform ink drips with high accuracy and to detect an ink viscosity on the basis of the waveform of a traveling wave caused by an ultrasonic vibration by a method wherein a traveling wave attributed to an ultrasonic vibration in an ink is detected, and an ink viscosity is detected on the basis of an electric signal generated from the ultrasonic vibration transmitted through the ink. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet printer is constructed by arranging a plurality of nozzles 11 and comprising an ultrasonic excitation means 20 provided on one end of a head body 10, i.e., on an ink supply side, inside which an ink flow path 12 common to the nozzles 11 for applying an ultrasonic vibration to an ink in the ink flow path 12, an ultrasonic detection means 30 provided on the other end of the head body 10, i.e., on an ink discharge side, for detecting a traveling wave caused by the ultrasonic vibration in the ink, and a viscosity detection means 40 for detecting an ink viscosity on the basis of the waveform of the traveling wave represented by an electric signal generated from the ultrasonic detection means 30. In this manner, based on the waveform of the traveling wave caused by the ultrasonic vibration, an ink viscosity can be detected easily and accurately. |
