The invention relates to a method and a machine for packaging, intended to cover an object 1 with a tubular sheath 2 in the form of a reel or otherwise. According to the invention, the object is placed on trays which are displaced linearly by drive means 3. The object is brought intermittently in front of several stations which are provided successively for the operations of loading, centring 5, cutting 6, positioning of the sheath by gripping and displacement of its free part, with sectioning of the latter at a specific length 7, sealing 8 and discharge 9. This method and this machine apply primarily, but not exclusively, to flowers. <IMAGE>
