An endoprosthesis (20) is received on the catheter and can be inserted together with the latter, for example into a vessel, in the correct position and can be implanted in this vessel by radial widening and subsequent fixing in the widened position. The endoprosthesis can surround a section (15) of the catheter with prestressing and can in this way be held on the catheter in an essentially axially fixed manner, the separation from the catheter being achieved by means of the radial widening upon implantation. However, it is also possible for the endoprosthesis to be held on the catheter in an essentially axially fixed manner by mechanical means. The action of these means is lost following implantation as a result of the radial widening, or the means can be removed following implantation, so that a withdrawal of the catheter is achieved.
