<p>A looped fiber bundle laser oscillator system consisting of arrays of semiconductor diodes (4) whose active medium is connected to a single laser cavity mirror (14) via a large number of single mode optical fibres (11). These are optically coupled to opposite ends of the active region of said semiconductor diodes (4) so that said single laser cavity mirror (14) forms the output mirror of a phase-locked looped laser resonator. The semiconductor diodes are optically coupled to each other via the optical fibers and can be electrically excited under both continuous and pulsed conditions to emit either coherent or incoherent light depending on whether or not the semiconductor light sources (4) behave as laser gain media or sources of pump light for active optical fibers in the fiber bundle.</p> |
