PURPOSE:To give a function not deteriorating for a long term to the surface of a polyester by aminating it, treating the aminated surface in a vapor phase with a fluorinating agent having a reactive group to bond the amino groups to the fluorinating agent. CONSTITUTION:A polyester (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) is treated with a di- or poly-amine (e.g. ethylenediamine) in a vapor phase to aminate its surface. The aminated polyester is treated in a vapor phase with a fluorinating agent having groups reactive with an amino group (e.g. 1,1-perfluoroisopropyl-2- trifluoromethyletylenylglycidyl benzoate). In this way, the fluorinating agent is bonded to the amino groups to functionalize the surface of the polyester with the functionalizing agent and to impart thereto permanently excellent water repellency, oil repellency, staining resistance, etc. |
