Redispersible additive agglomerate (I) consists of (a) 92.1-96.1 wt% mineral additives, (b) 0.1-3 wt% hydrophobic surface coating agent for (a), and (c) 3.8-4.9 wt% hydrophobic binder system. (I) is produced by (i) intimately kneading the above components in a suitable kneader while adding a hydrophilic dispersant, to produce a homogeneous mass, (ii) evaporating the dispersant to give a dust-free agglomerate and (iii) drying the agglomerate to remove residual moisture. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is useful in thermoplastics, esp in polyolefins and/or polystyrenes and/or copolymers thereof, and as a halogen-free fire retardant (claimed). The invention provides a highly-filled redispersible additive agglomerate which can be used in cpdg or masterbatch processes at very low cost wrt machines and energy.
