Hydroxyalkylsulphonium hydroxyalkyl sulphates of formula (I) are used to prepare agents for regulating skin cell growth. R1 and R2 = 1-20C alkyl, 2-4C hydroxyalkyl, 5-8C cycloalkyl, 7-12C aralkyl or phenyl, R3 = H, Me or Et, n = 0 or 1. Pref. cpds. (I) have R1 and R2 = 1-20C alkyl or 2-4C hydroxyalkyl and R3 = H or Me. (I) are formulated for topical admin. e.g. as solnsm., emulsions or ointments contg. 0.01-20 (esp. 0.5-8) wt. % (I), opt. in the form of impregnated gauges. USE/ADVANTAGE- (I) are known cpds. for rapid regeneration of skin after burns not only to promote wound healing and inhibit infection of wounds, but also inhibit uncontrolled cell growth in the wound healing process, and in skin disorders such as eczema and neurodermatitis.
