A compact dispenser for dispensing an article (21; 22) has an ejector (20) in a starting position between the lower ends of two chutes (7), (8) which are provided with a support base (5), each of which is for a column of articles (21; 22) which are stacked on top of one another. The ejector (20) can be moved, to eject the lowermost articles (21; 22), through a lateral outlet opening (9) or (10) of the chute (7) or (8), from its starting position transversely to the longitudinal direction of the two chutes (7); (8) and over the support base (5) of one or the other chute (7) or (8) and subsequently back into its starting position. <IMAGE>
