1363150 17α-Propadienylsteroids SANDOZ Ltd 19 Oct 1971 [17 June 1971] 48561/71 Heading C2U The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R is H or C 2-4 alkanoyl ; R 1 is Me, Et or Pr<SP>2</SP>; and either (i) X and Y together signify #<SP>9(10)</SP>-unsaturation and R 2 is H; or (ii) X = Y = H and R 2 is H or Me; or (iii) X=R 2 =H and Y=Me. Their preparation is from the corresponding 3-ones by reaction with hydroxylamine or an acid-addition salt thereof, followed by O- alkanoylation when required. When the product is a mixture of syn and anti isomers, these may be separated chromatographically. Starting materials are prepared as described in Specifications 1,361,411, 1,361,412 and 1,353,162. Compounds I are said to possess progestational, estrogenic and pregnancy interruption properties, and may be made up with carriers into pharmaceutical compositions for oral and parenteral administration. |
