The base (2) of the measuring unit (1) defines a measuring plane. At least one carriage (5) is movable along a first guide (4) on the base along a first axis, x. The measuring head (13) with a probe (15) is installed on another carriage (9) movable along its own translation axis (2) at right angles to the first. This second carriage (9) has a handle (17) with at least one operating element for manual control of the translational movement of the measuring head. Transmission elements are provided to couple the operating element(s) to the measuring head. The column of the latter can be driven by an electromotor controlled from the handle.
