The invention relates to a method and device for melting reversible duplicating gel and for simultaneously making available molten duplicating gel ready for processing for dental laboratory purposes. The device comprises a heatable, pot-shaped and externally aeratable container (1) with stirrer (7) located in a surrounding housing (11). In order to carry out the method using a device of this type and to have processable duplicating compound constantly available despite use of small hydrocolloid quantities, the device is designed, according to the invention, in such a way that a heatable gel-melting support surface (3) provided with drip openings (2) is located above the opening cross-section of the pot-shaped container (1), and a limiting wall (5) surrounding the gel reception space (4) is located above this. According to the invention, the method is carried out in such a way that an amount, which corresponds or roughly corresponds to an amount removed, of solid duplicating gel is heated outside the liquid duplicating gel, melted and added dropwise to the liquid duplicating gel compound kept at the processing temperature, and that the heat introduced by the hot gel added dropwise is removed from the liquid duplicating gel amount by cooling the latter. <IMAGE>
