Wire insulation stripping and cutting unit - has insulation gripped, heated and removed and wire cut by electrodes which fuse wire end strands in welding plasma

Electric wire (10) stripping and cutting (1) unit has the wire end fed into the unit's inlet (2) until the end abuts a sensor (7) which serves as an end stop and as a means to set the unit in operation. The insulation is gripped by a wire clamp (4) which can be moved to the desired position along the length of the insulation. The clamp has an integral heating ring (3) which heats and softens the e.g. plastic insulation after the voltage source (9) has been switched on. The clamped insulation is then removed from the unit. Holding electrodes (5) are then placed on the insulation-free wire section on the opposite side of which a cutting electrode (6) is positioned. The voltage source (8) for the welding current is then switched on to cut the wire and allow the residual section to fall out of the unit. ADVANTAGE - Insulation stripping and wire-end welding are accomplished in one operation. Individual strands of wire end are fused together by welding action thus avoiding split ends.
