Vehicle-mounted receivers with a decoder for decoding digitally encoded traffic information have storage devices holding features specific to a particular section of road as well as standard texts. By addressing the storage location, these texts can be called up. In order that only traffic information from the region of interest to the driver is transmitted to him or her, features specific to a particular section of road are given an identification code. By entering the identification code, it is thus possible to select only the traffic information concerning the region required. In addition, programme identification codes are stored by transmitters responsible for broadcasting traffic information in the region concerned. Comparing the stored programme identification codes ensures that those transmitters responsible for traffic information in the region of interest to the driver are actually received.
