PURPOSE:To surely and effectively define a signal name by defining the name of only an output signal contained in a program, retrieving all other output signals having the same meaning, and defining the names of the coincident output signals. CONSTITUTION:An automatic program generating device consists of a program generating part 2 which inputs the system specifications 1 of a subject plant appliance, etc., and a signal name defining means 4. At the outset, the names of all output signals having the easy-to-grasp meanings are defined out of those signals used in a program. Then the output signals having the same meaning are retrieved out of all other signals. Thus the names of the output signals are defined as the signal names to the coincident signals. As a result, the signal names can be surely and effectively defined.
