METHOD OF 1-OMEGA-DI (ACETYL THIO) ALKANE PRODUCTION

The solution concerns the new method of the production of 1, ω-di-(acetylthio)-alkanes of the general formula I<IMAGE>where n is 2 to 7, which is based upon the alkylation of potassium thiolacetate by 1, ω-dichloralkane of the general formula II<IMAGE>where n is 2 to 7 by heating in a suitable dissolvent e.g. in the low homologue of alcohol with 1 to 4 carbons in the molecule. Diacetylthioalkanes of the formula I, especially the homologue where n is 2, can be used as the starting substance for the synthesis of more complex sulphuric compounds as e.g. amino-acids containing sulphur and sulphury derivates used in photographic and pharmaceutical chemistry. 1, 2-di-(acetylthio) ethane can be used to generate 1, 2-ethandithiol in the appropriate reaction mixture because this acetyl derivate is crystallic and it has no undesirable mercaptan odour in the dry state during the normal treatment.
