An apparatus for jacketing accumulator plates has a delivery spool 1 for separator strip 8, a cutting apparatus 15, for cutting sections 22 of separator strip 8 to length, in which the separator strip 8 is cut without interrupting the movement of cutter blocks and is notched in the region of the folding line, and a conveying apparatus 29 for placing plates onto the sections 22 of separator strip, downstream of which a folding station 31 is provided, by means of which the part located in front of the plate 24 on a section 22 of separator strip 8 is deflected upwards out of a nozzle by a deflection plate or a gas flow and is finally folded backwards about the bottom edge of the plate 24. The assembly 35, consisting of the plate 24 and section 22, is fed into an ultrasonic welding apparatus 36 and the jacketed plates produced thereby are stacked, if necessary subject to the supply of centre and/or end plates, and are supplied for further processing. The special advantage of the proposed apparatus is that the movements of the separator strip 8 of the sections 22, cut to length thereby, and of the plates 24 which are to be jacketed take place essentially in one direction and the movements do not need to be interrupted during the various work processes.
