PURPOSE:To provide excellent running properties during deceleration by a method wherein, when the turning state of a vehicle is detected, the degree of deceleration at a time when a gear shifting step is shifted down is set to a value lower than that during straight running. CONSTITUTION:When control of deceleration is effected by means of signals from sensors 41 - 44, a controller 40 decides lateral acceleration G, and accord ing to the value thereof, a speed change pattern for controlling shift down during deceleration is selected. G > 0, i.e., a shift pattern of a turning time, whichever shift down speed change may be, is set so that shift down is effected by a brake pedal step-on amount lower than that in a pattern during a straight running time (G=0) provided a car speed is one and the same, Thereby, it is prevented from occurring that during deceleration in a straight running state, a gear shifting step is shifted down unnecessarily and frequently and a riding feeling is uselessly worsened. During a turn, a gear shifting step is shifted down at relatively low deceleration, the actuation region of an engine brake is in creased, and a ratio of braking by using a brake is reduced, and skid is prevented form occurring. |
