PURPOSE:To suppress the congestion of electrodes and to obtain the element having good responsiveness, low-temp. workability and durability by incorporating at least a platinum catalyst metal and metal oxide hexaaluminate into the measuring electrode. CONSTITUTION:A heater 3 is mounted via an insulator 2 into a solid electrolyte 1 made of zirconia. The measuring electrode 6 is mounted to the solid electrolyte 1 and a porous protective layer 7 to protect the element is provided. The reference electrode 5 is provided to face a reference gas introducing port 4 and in contact with the surface on the solid electrolyte 1. At least the platinum catalyst metal and the metal oxide hexaaluminate are incorporated into the measuring electrode 6. The metal oxide hexaaluminate is incorporated preferably at about 5 to 60% of the total measuring electrode volume. The progression of the sintering of the measuring electrode 6 and the congestion thereof are effectively prevented in this way and the gas transmittability is improved and, therefore, the good responsiveness of the sensor is maintained over a long period of time. |
