<p>1348268 Electro-photography RCA CORPORATION 27 May 1971 [12 June 1970] 17489/71 Heading G2H Charging of a photo-conductive member is effected by a needle electrode 80 situated in front of image source 100, which may be a transparency or liquid crystal element, and illumination source 92, which may be an incandescent or xenon flash lamp. The image source is in the form of a pattern, e.g. as in Fig. 2, having a black spot in the shadow of which lies the needle electrode 80. A machine-readable label is produced by withdrawing the end of a photo-conductive web having a heat-sensitive adhesive backing from a cutter 110, after formation of a previously produced label, through a combined charging and imagewise exposing station 76, liquid development station 52 and air drying station 50, whereafter the web is again advanced to cutter 110 and labelling station 78. The development station has a pivoted valved applicator head 62 through which liquid is supplied from a bellows container 58, which has a row of small openings normal to the direction of movement of the web, and which is electrically grounded. The head pivots into operative position and the valve is opened by the action of a solenoid 75.</p> |
