<p>1309987 Olefin polymerization catalyst SOLVAY ET CIE 9 June 1971 [9 June 1970] 19645/71 Addition to 1256851 Heading C3P A catalyst for the polymerization of olefins comprises (a) an organometallic compound or an organosilicon compound containing at least one Si-H bond, and (b) a solid obtained by reacting a support, comprising a dry solid compound of formula X (2-n) M(OR) n , with an impregnating agent of formula AlR<SP>1</SP> p Y (3-p) , separating the solid product, reacting it with a halogenated compound of a transition metal, and again separating the solid product. In the above formulae M is a divalent metal, R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrocarbon groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, X is an inorganic radical and Y is a halogen; n is greater than 0 but not greater than 2 and p is at least 1 but less than 2. Examples describe the polymerization of ethylene using (a) Al(CH 3 ) 3 , Al(i-C 4 H 9 ) 3 , Al(i-C 8 H 17 ) 3 , Al(C 2 H 5 ) 2 Cl or isoprenyl aluminium, and (b) solids obtained by treating Mg(OC 2 H 5 ) 2 or Mg(OC 6 H 5 ) 2 with Al(C 2 H 5 )Cl 2 or Al 2 (C 2 H 5 ) 3 Cl 3 followed by TiCl 4 or VOCl 3 .</p> |
