PURPOSE:To accomplish the quality improvement of gas in high efficiency with energy saving by burning part of a gas comprising tar, ammonia and a combustible gas produced by gasifying hydrocarbons followed by decomposing both the tar and ammonia through catalytic reaction. CONSTITUTION:A combustible gas comprising (A) a combustible gas such as CO, H2 and CH4 produced by gasifying hydrocarbons, (B) tar and (C) ammonia is incorporated with (oxygen enriched) air or oxygen to burn part of said gas followed by contact at >=800 deg.C with a catalyst containing at least one substance selected from Ni, Cr and Fe. Thereby the tar is decomposed into CO and H2 and the ammonia into N2 and H2, thus accomplishing the quality improvement of the combustible gas. |
