PURPOSE:To effectively and easily form an electrode having uniform and fine pores by applying paste contg. noble metal powder having a catalytic effect and org. metal oxide on the surface of a solid electrolyte body, then calcining the coating. CONSTITUTION:The oxygen detecting element 1a consists of a cylindrical solid electrolyte body which is opened at one end, closed at the other end and has a flange part 42 on the open end side thereof, a catalyst electrode layer 43 coated and formed over nearly the entire surface of the outside surface thereof, a porous protective layer 45 which is further coated and formed thereon and an internal electrode layer 44 formed in the cylindrical body. The paste contg. at least the noble metal powder having the catalytic effect and the org. metal oxide is applied on at least a part of the surface of the solid electrolyte body and is then calcined to form the catalyst electrode layer 43 and the porous protective layer 45 which coats and protects the electrode layer 43 is formed after or simultaneously with the calcination. |
