PURPOSE:To provide the subject inorganic material excellent in resistance to oxidative consumption, heat, etc., by impregnating a formed body of a heat- resistant inorganic compound with a specific compound and then successively heat-treating the impregnated formed body at prescribed temperatures in an oxidizing and nonoxidizing atmospheres. CONSTITUTION:A compound selected from (A) organosilicon compounds mainly having a skeleton expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 are alkyl, phenyl or H; (m) is 5 to 50), (B) metal alcoholates expressed by formula II (M1 is Zr, Al, Si or Ti; R3 is alkyl, phenyl or H; (x) is 3 to 4) and (C) copolymers mainly having a skeleton expressed by formula III (M2 is Zr, Al, Si or Ti; R4, R5 and R6 are alkyl, phenyl or H; (y) is 2 to 3; (n) is 5 to 50) is prepared. A formed body of a heat-resistant inorganic compound is then impregnated with the abovementioned compound, heated at 100 to 700 deg.C in an oxidizing atmosphere and subsequently heated at 150 to 2500 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to provide a heat- and corrosion-resistant inorganic material.
