PURPOSE: To provide a stable aqueous solution of a water-soluble pentamidine salt, composed of an acetate buffer solution having a specific acetate concentration and effective against carinii pneumonia which is a symptom of a patient of AIDS. CONSTITUTION: This aqueous solution is composed of an acetate buffer solution having a total acetate concentration of 0.01-0.06M and pH of 4.0-5.0 at room temperature. The aqueous solution contains e.g. mesylate, gluconate, lactate or isethionate. The solution is preferably an aseptic solution. The buffer solution typically has an initial pH of 4.6-5.0 and is diluted by a factor of 2-10, preferably about 5 in the case of preparing a 0.1M solution in acetate.
