PURPOSE:To easily produce a sintered material composed mainly of AIN taking advantage of the heat of reaction of Al with N2 by mixing ultrafine powder of Al with AIN powder and optionally other ceramic fine powder, compression- molding the mixture, putting into a heating furnace and heating at a specific temperature in N2 gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A mixture is produced by mixing >20wt.% of fine powder of Al having an average particle diameter of <0.5mum with the remaining parts of AIN powder and optionally powder of nitride, oxide or carbide of other metals, e. g. ceramics such as TiN, BN, Al2O3 or WC. The mixture is compression molded under a pressure of 100kg/cm<2> and the formed article 3 is put into a reaction tube 2 and heated at 600 to 800 deg.C with circumferential heating furnace 1 under the supply of N2 gas to the reaction tube. The ultrafine powder of Al in the formed article is made to react with N2 gas to give AIN while emitting light and heat. The formed article 3 can be easily sintered by the generated heat. |
