The instrument is used for dilating a blood vessel, especially a peripheral blood vessel of small dia. It consists of a catheter tube (4) which forms a guide for a probe (3). The distal end (6) of the probe has an enlarged dia. in the shape of an olive (5). The probe (3) and the bore of the catheter tube (4) are coated with a hydro-gel. The instrument can be used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis by dilating arteries which have too small a dia. to be treated with catheters fitted with balloons.
