PURPOSE:To surely and uniformly set an extrudate by measuring the sizes in the prescribed part of the extrudate after extrusion, controlling a setting machine in accordance with the results thereof and automatically shaping the extrudate to a desired size and shape. CONSTITUTION:After a billet is loaded into a container, a ram is driven forward to extrude the extrudate from the extrusion hole of a die. Sensors 21 operate upon arrival of the extrudate at the position where the sensors are disposed. The distances from the respective sensors 21 and the extrudate are then calculated by a distance calculating device 22. The width of the extrudate is calculated by a size calculating device 23 in accordance with the result thereof. The result calculated by the size calculating device 23 and the reference size are compared by a comparing device. The comparing device 40 outputs a setting signal. A setting machine controller 60 controls setting rolls 32a, 32b via a setting roll driving device 31 in accordance with this signal. The rolls 32a, 32b operate to match the width of the extrudate with the reference size when the size measuring position of the extrudate arrives at the setting position. |
