PURPOSE:To enhance methacrolein synthesizing activity and durability, by forming a catalyst having a specific metal oxide composition and set to specific ranges in the characteristic values of a specific surface area, a pore volume, pore size distribution and a pore diameter. CONSTITUTION:An unbaked catalyst raw material powder is charged in a centrifugal fluidized coating apparatus and granulated to form granules having an average particle size of 2-10mm before baking. By this method, a catalyst having a specific surface area of 1-20m<2>/g, a pore volume, 0.1-1.0cc/g and pore diameter distributions respectively concentrated to a range of 1-10mum and a range of 0.1- below 1mum formed. The composition of this catalyst is represented by formula I (wherein A is Ni or Co, B is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or thallium, C is phosphorus and D is silicon). |
