Spring-loaded catch for door - has grooves in oblique end face to prevent lock from being forced open

A door (1) is fitted with a lock (2) enclosed in a housing (3). The lock has a spring loaded catch (6) which can be retracted by rotating the boss (5) which is actuated by the door knob or handle. When the door is closed, there is a small gap (12) between the door (1) and the door post (7). This gap enables a thin object, such as a credit card, to be inserted and pressed against the oblique end surface of the catch and force it open. This forcing of the lock is prevented by forming vertical grooves (13) in the oblique end face of the catch. The edge of the card is gripped in one of the grooves and so prevents the catch from being forced open. USE/ADVANTAGE - Increased lock security.
