Hospital bed mattress frame adjusts in height and angle off lever pairs joined by a manual or motor powered tie rod, using a foot end arrester which separates the levers from the rod for tilting purposes. The rod is slotted lengthways for the axis of the lever pair so that this can travel idly along the slot when the arrester is off. The foot and head end lever pairs (37, 38 and 43, 44) should uncouple from the drive (53) in the bottom horizontal position of the bed by a lever operated by the patient and automaticlaly re-couple to the drive when the bed descends from a height or tilt setting. ADVANTAGE - Bed can be adjusted in tilt by patient without assitance, and the position later cancelled by patient to return to bottom position.
