In a magnetic recording carrier consisting of a non-magnetic substrate coated with at least two magnetic layers comprising a binder contg. finely dispersed magnetic particles and opt. non-magnetic additives, is that) (i) the first magnetic layer contains acicular Co ferrite particles of coercive force 43.8-55.7 kA/m and BET specific surface 26-34 sq.m./g; and (ii) the second magnetic layer contains acicular Cr dioxide particles of coercive force at least 48.6 kA/m and BET specific surface at least 28 sq.m./g.
