Waste gases from wood-drying plant and contg. solid particles, tarry and resinous materials undergo preliminary spray washing before transfer to an electro-filter. Here the collector electrodes are cooled. Water vapour in the gases condenses on the cooled electrodes to form a descending liq. film carrying away both liq. and solid aerosol particles. The spray electrodes for the filter may also be cooled to form a similarly acting liq. film. Cooling is by electrically insulating liq., such as transformer oil. At least one of the two electrodes may be a tube of non-metallic corrosion-resistant material whose conductivity derives only from the condensate film, and cooled on to surface remote from the counter electrode. USE/ADVANTAGE - For drying veneers and other wood prods. Despite low power consumption, purificn. is effective in meeting legal demands, esp. on fine mist emission, with no problems for sticky materials.
