The breathing appts. has a bottle (1) which contains the high pressure breathing gas. The bottle outlet is connected to a shut-off valve (2), a pressure reducing valve (3), an inspiratory valve (6) and the breathing mask (5), arranged in series. A pressure gauge (7) is connected to the pipe (4) which connects the pressure reducing valve (3) to the inspiratory valve (6). The pressure reducing valve (3) has no inlet pressure compensation so its outlet pressure bears a constant ratio to the inlet pressure. The pressure gauge (7) is calibrated to show this inlet pressure which is the same as the bottle pressure. The pressure gauge (7) is positioned so that it is easily observed by the user of the appts. USE - A long high pressure connection between the pressure gauge and bottle is not required.
