The device increases the force of recoil of a gun when using practice ammunition so that the force of recoil is the same as when live ammunition is used. The device consists of a housing (1) which is attached to the end of the barrel (3). This housing (1) is provided with a cover (8), with an opening (7) for the projectile, and which encloses a piston (13). The inner surface of the end wall of the housing (1) is so shaped that the gases generated by the projectile propellant which impinge on this surface are deflected tangentially over the surface (12) of the piston (13).
